Cyanotypes and Sun-Exposure Prints
Saturday, August 11, 2012, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Invented in 1842, cyanotypes are a brilliant Prussian blue and can easily be done on fabric or paper, from film or as photograms (camera-less images). In this class, you will get a broad overview of the process and its history before you learn to hand-coat, expose, develop, and tone your own prints. You are encouraged to bring interesting items from home for the photograms, such as pressed flowers, leaves, feathers, lace, or other objects that can be arranged flat on paper.

Fee: $90 for Silver Eye members, $108 for non-members
Limited to 10 students
Instructor: Jeffrey Krsul, Photographer
Location: Silver Eye Center for Photography

Photographing With a Plastic Lens Camera
Saturday, August 18, 2012, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

A toy camera with a plastic lens is a low-tech, quirky, and fun alternative to digital imaging. Learn how to operate a Holga or Diana, and to embrace the elements of chance and features such as light leaks, vignette corners, and soft focus that are unique to these cameras. Students will leave the workshop with a knowledge of the artistic possibilities afforded by these cameras and with new ideas of how to incorporate them into their own creative work. We encourage students to bring their own Holga/Diana or other plastic cameras, though not required. A variety of cameras will be available for each student’s use and experimentation.

Fee: $145 for Silver Eye members; $174 for non-members (for those without a plastic lens camera)
$115 for Silver Eye members; $138 for non-members (if you have your own plastic lens camera)
Limited to 10 students
Instructor: Jessica Kalmar, Photography Instructor, Robert Morris University
