I have been putting some ideas on paper as a reaction to people that write about the qualities of lenses, especially this “bokeh” aspect.
Although I’m not against lens-photography (a lot of beautiful images have and will be made with lenses), I have noticed that some people connect the term ‘natural’ with certain lens-bokeh-qualities.
And that’s a connection I would like to see opposed!
Only pinhole photography, with its infinte depth of field is the natural way of seeing!
After all: did anyone ever see things “out-of-focus” (not counting eyesight problems)? No, we always automatically focus at whatever we look at!
I have already made a startup of an essay on this, which I can send as attachment to an email if wished.
Greetings,
Danny Kalkhoven

What about the stereoscopic vision and the onley one “eye” of the camera.
Naturaly the focus is only on the point of interest
shby is on the right track…. Try closing one eye and focusing on an object just inches from your face. Everything in front or behind your point of focus is out of focus! This is even more noticeable in dark condictions when your pupil automatically increases its aperature to allow more light in… just like a lens camera!
