About the Competition:
Soho Photo Gallery of New York City is pleased to announce its 19th annual National Juried Competition. The competition is open to all U.S. residents, minimum age 18, excluding current members of Soho Photo Gallery. All photo-based works are eligible, with no limitation as to subject matter or technique. The show will run from July 2 through July 26, 2014 in our gallery in the TriBeCA section of New York City. The juror, Ariel Meyerowitz, will choose approximately 40 photographs for the exhibition. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded and at least two honorable mentions may be given as well. Award winners will be announced on our website prior to the Opening Reception.

Entry:
Submit photographs online at spg.slideroom.com using only .jpg format no larger than 1220 pixels (longest dimension). Follow instructions on Slideroom’s site for making payment and submitting images.

Fees:
1-5 images $40
6-10 images $65
11-15 images $85

Winning Photographs:
Winning photographs must be framed and wired for hanging. Maximum height or width (including frame) of exhibited work cannot exceed 48 inches. Photographs not suitably prepared will be excluded. Packing and delivery instructions will be emailed to participants. Once unpacked at the gallery, framed photographs may be evaluated by the juror once again. Printing excellence, mounting and framing qualities of each piece will be taken into account. Any changes in final rankings will be made at that time and announced at the Opening Reception.

Insurance:
Although Soho Photo Gallery will make reasonable efforts to protect your work while it is in our possession, we are not legally responsible for it. Therefore, consider insuring your work for the time it is in the gallery.

Commission:
Soho Photo expects a 20% donation for all sales resulting from the exhibition.

Prizes:
The awards include cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, a minimum of two Honorable Mentions, and additional prizes will be provided by our sponsors for this year’s competition: MOO, Inc, and Archival Methods.

About the Juror:
Art advisor, Ariel Meyerowitz, of Ariel Meyerowitz Art Advisory (Brooklyn, New York) specializes in vintage and contemporary photography, painting, prints and works on paper and counsels novice and experienced collectors as wel l as companies on star t ing or expanding collections through a process of education, presentation and acquisition. Ariel has worked in the art community for twenty years. She was the owner of the celebrated Ariel Meyerowitz Gallery, first located in SoHo and then in Chelsea until 2006. Before her gallery she was Associate Director for the James Danziger Gallery in New York, Director of the Scott Nichols Gallery in San Francisco, interned at the Friends of Photography/Ansel Adams Center and was a freelance Art Reviewer at the Bay Area Times. Ariel is the daughter o f photographer, Joel Meyerowitz and artist, Vivian Bower.

About Soho Photo:
Soho Photo Gallery is the oldest and largest artist-run photography gallery in New York City. It was established in 1971 by a group of photojournalists and avant-garde photographers who were seeking an alternative gallery space in which to exhibit their work. Membership is open to professional and serious amateur photographers on the basis of a portfolio review.

Deadlines:
The deadline for all entries is May 1, 2014.
The photographers chosen by the juror will be notified by email on or about May 22.
The juror’s selections will also be posted on the Soho Photo website by that date. Accepted work must arrive at the gallery by June 23. Pickup will be on July 27, 2014
