The Competition
Soho Photo Gallery of New York City is pleased to announce its 18th National Juried Competition. The competition is open to all U.S. residents, minimum age 18, excluding current members of Soho Photo Gallery.
All photo-based works are eligible, with no limitation as to subject matter or technique. The show will run from July 3 through July 27, 2013 in our gallery in the TriBeCa section of New York City.
The juror, Laura Paterson, will choose approximately 35 photographs for the exhibition. First, second and third place
prizes will be awarded and at least two honorable mentions may be given as well.
Awards will be announced at the Opening Reception.
Submissions
Photographs must be submitted online at spg.slideroom.com, using only .jpg, .png or .gif formats. For good image quality and fast upload, image files should be sized no larger than 1220 pixels (longest dimension) at 72 dpi.
Entry Fees
1 – 5 images $40
6 – 10 images $65
11 – 15 images $85
Deadlines
The deadline for all entries is May 1, 2013. The photographers chosen by the juror will be notified by email on or about May 20. The juror’s selections will also be posted on the Soho Photo website by that date. Accepted work must arrive at the gallery by June 24th.
Winning Photographs
Selected photographs must be framed and wired for hanging. Maximum height or width (including frame) of exhibited work cannot exceed 48 inches. Delivery instructions will be emailed to participants.
Once unpacked at the gallery, framed photographs will be evaluated by the juror once again. Printing excellence, mounting and framing qualities of each piece will be taken into account. Final decisions for awards and honorable mentions will be made at that time and announced at the Opening Reception.
Although Soho Photo Gallery will make every reasonable effort to protect your work while it is in our possession, we are not legally responsible for it. Therefore, consider insuring your work while it is in our possession. Soho Photo requests 20% of all sales made while the work is on display.
Juror: Laura Paterson
Vice-President Photographs Dept. Christie’s, NYC
Laura Paterson is Vice-President and Specialist in the Photography Department at Christie’s, New York, where she has
served on the professional staff since 1994, Her responsibilities include making appraisals and estimating the value of photographic works for auctions, creating and editing sales catalogues, and coordinating the department’s various sales.
As the world’s leading fine art auctioneer, Christie’s has sold fine art, furniture, jewelry and wine since James Christie conducted the first sale in London on 5 December 1766.
Ms. Paterson is a native of the United Kingdom. Prior to joining Christie’s, she worked at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and the University of Edinburgh. Ms. Paterson earned a Master of Arts degree in Art History in 1982 from the University of Edinburgh and completed postgraduate work there in 1990 as well.
