Call for Entries: 30th Annual Juried Membership Exhibition, Houston Center for Photography

As a members-based organization, HCP proudly holds a call for entries for its Annual Juried Membership Exhibition. Juried by an internationally acclaimed specialist in the field, members’ work is selected for exhibition in the HCP galleries.

Three juror commendations will receive Beth Block Juried Membership Honoraria of $500, supported by The Beth Block Foundation.

They will also receive a page on the HCP Member Artist Database.

Juried by Anne Tucker, Gus and Lyndall Wortham Curator of Photography at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston

ABOUT THE JUROR:
Anne Wilkes Tucker received undergraduate degrees from Randolph Macon Woman’s College and Rochester Institute of Technology and a graduate degree from the Visual Studies Workshop, a division of the State University of New York. After working in various museums and universities, she joined The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 1976 and is currently the Gus and Lyndall Wortham Curator. She founded the museum’s Photography Department that now has a collection of over 26,000 photographs. She has curated over forty exhibitions, most of which were accompanied by a publication. She has contributed essays to monographs and catalogues and published many articles. She has lectured throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America and been awarded fellowships by the National Endowment for the Arts, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and The Getty Center.

In 2001, in an issue devoted to “America’s Best”, TIME magazine honored her as “America’s Best Curator”. She was the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Focus Award from the Griffin Museum of Photography in 2006 and received an Alumnae Achievement Award from Randolph Macon Woman’s College. In 2011 she received an honorary doctorate from the College at Brockport State University of New York. She is currently preparing the exhibition WAR/PHOTOGRAPHY: Photographs of Armed Conflict and its Aftermath.

ELIGIBILITY:
– Participants must be or become HCP members (any level) at the time of submission.(REQUIRED FOR SUBMISSION)
*If you are an Artist/Photographer level member or above you can waive the fee for one call for entry. If you would like to waive this fee please contact us at exhibits@hcponline.org and we will send you a discount code.
– The competition is open to all artists working in photographic and lens-based work.
– Any photographic process is acceptable as long as it is:
o Original
o Been made within the last two years
o Has not been exhibited in a previous HCP Exhibition.

FEES:
There is a $35 entry, which includes entry for 10 images or video. The maximum number of images artist can submit is 10. You are not required to submit 10 images. You may submit more than one entry. Each entry is $35.

RULES FOR ENTRY:
– All submissions will go through CALLFORENTRY.ORG, you can create a free account
– Entrants should upload up to 10 images or videos, an artist statement, and a resume/bio
– Acceptance will be based on the body of work by each artist rather than on individual images.
