Things are not always as they seem. For the juried exhibition ALTERNATIVE REALITIES, we seek photographs that broaden the definition of realism in photography to encompass subjects that seem imaginary, mysterious, fictional, magical, or even mystical. While we welcome work in a variety of alternative processes, this is not an alternative processes exhibition per se. Straight photographs, digitally manipulated work, work that combines alternative processes with standard darkroom or digital printing, or standard alternative process images are all welcome. We are most interested in compelling images, regardless of the process used to create them.
For ALTERNATIVE REALITIES, juror Laura Moya will select forty photos for exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery from Aug. 7th through Sept. 1st, 2012. She will also choose an additional thirty-five photos for the gallery’s “Online Annex.†All selected work will be included in a full-color exhibition catalog available for purchase. To help artists defray costs, PhotoPlace Gallery offers to mat and frame work selected for exhibition free of charge, providing artists print their images to our pre-cut mat and frame sizes. Submission fee: $25 for five photos, $6 each additional photo.
