Photography enables us to see the world in new and unexpected ways. It also allows us to transform our perceptions into heightened visual experiences. For TRANSFORMATIONS: THE ORDINARY MADE EXTRAORDINARY, we seek photographs that enable us to see ordinary things in new ways. We are pleased to welcome Ellen Jantzen as the juror for this exhibition. Ellen is an amazing photographer whose work has been featured in a number of important exhibitions and honored with numerous awards. Ellen will choose 40 photographs for display at PhotoPlace Gallery from December 3rd through December 28th. She will also select up to 35 additional photographs for the gallery’s Online Annex. All selected work will be included in a full-color exhibition catalog available for purchase. To help artists defray costs, PhotoPlace Gallery offers to mat and frame work selected for exhibition free of charge, providing artists print their images to our pre-cut mat and frame sizes. Submission fee: $25 for five photos, $6 each additional photo.
About the juror: Ellen Jantzen. Not considering herself a “photographer” but an image-maker, Ellen Jantzen creates work that bridges the world of photography, prints and collage. As digital cameras began producing excellent resolution, Ellen found her perfect medium. It was a true confluence of technical advancements and creative desire that culminated in her current explorations in photo-inspired art using both a camera to capture imagery and a computer to alter, combine and manipulate the pieces. Her work is shown and published internationally; just recently she was awarded First Prize, Fine Art in the prestigious PX3, Prix de la Photographie Paris for her series “Transplanting Reality; Transcending Nature” Ellen is represented by, among others, the Susan Spiritus Gallery in Newport Beach CA.
